 Introduction

The basic premise of the game is that you want to have a hand value that is closer to 21 than that of the dealer, without going over 21(going over is called bust). The main goal is to beat the dealer. This is the game where you play against house/dealer, so you dont have to worry about other players (if playing multiplayer BJ). You have two ways to win a hand. First is by having better hand than the dealer,second is if dealer goes bust. Third option is to be a draw( same value hands).

Values of the cards

An Ace can count as either 1 or 11.
The cards from 2 through 9 are just that.
The 10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10.

A hand with an Ace is called “soft ” hand.Example: Ace and 6 are called “soft” 17. But that hand can be either 17 or 7 since Ace can count as either 1 or 11.

Another example: Ace, 5 equals 6 or “soft “16.Now you pull another card say  8. The hand is now (Ace, 5, 8) which totals 14. Notice that now the Ace must be counted as only 1 to avoid going over 21.

Blackjack

Ace and 10 or any face card means you hit the blackjack.Its also called natural. Blackjack pays the player odds of 3 to 2. Now if both player and the dealer have BJ the hand is a tie/push. But if player has BJ and dealer just regular 21( 10,8,3), player wins, and vice versa. Note that  if you split a pair of Aces for example,  and then draw a ten-valued card on one of the Aces, this is not a blackjack, but rather a total of 21.

Hit                    

Means you can draw another card. Depending on basic strategy you may want to draw more than one card (  with an assumption you didnt already bust or won the hand)
Stand   
To stand is to refrain from taking another card.
Double down
After you receive your first two cards, you may double your initial bet unless you are holding a 21. After doubling down, you may receive only one more card.
Split      
When your first two cards are of equal numerical value, you may split them into two separate hands and place an additional bet, equal to the original bet, on the second hand. For example, pair of 2s, pair of 7s, pair of 8s. If you split two Aces, you can only receive one additional card per hand and if you receive a  ten-valued card , the hand is counted as 21, not Blackjack.
Surrender
Casinos offer varuous versions of balckjack, one of them is blackjack surrender. Surrender means that player has a choice to surrender half their wager and forfeit the hand. There areearly (player may choose to surrender before the dealer checks his cards for a blackjack) and late ( dealer checks for blackjack first, and then only if he does not have blackjack will allow players to surrender their hands) surrender.
Insurance
This is sucker bet, meaning if you arent card counter never, i mean never take insurance or even money bet.
If the dealer shows an Ace, he will offer “Insurance” to the players. The insurance cost you a half of the original bet.if dealer does have Blackjack, your winning Insurance bet will be paid at odds of 2:1. That means youll lose your original bet, but since you took insurance bet youll brake even. If the dealer has anything other than a Blackjack, you lose your insurance bet, and the original bet for the hand remains in play.
Even money
Another sucker bet.If the dealer shows an Ace, and you are holding a Blackjack, the dealer will offer you the option of even money . If you accept even money, you are betting that the dealer also has a Blackjack.
